My all-star class members have had amazing behavior this past week. For their reward one day last week, the spinner landed on "Have lunch with Mrs. Patterick." So...we are going to have lunch on Dr. Seuss' birthday (this Wednesday) in our classroom! To make this event even more memorable, we will have birthday cupcakes for dessert to help celebrate the day--thanks to our amazing room mother! Your child will buy or bring his/her lunch as usual and then we will take it to our classroom to eat.
Also, your child is invited to bring a couple of favorite Dr. Seuss books to school during the week. After the Read-a-thon on Friday, they will then take the books back home. When helping your son or daughter choose a book, please make sure it says "By Dr. Seuss" or "Theo. LeSieg"--which is his name spelled backwards and also a clue that he did not illustrate his book. In the past, some students have brought books with the Cat in the Hat picture on them, but a lot of those are series of Cat in the Hat new reader books, not necessarily written by Dr. Seuss, so please double-check the books before they are sent to school.
For science this week and last, we have been and will continue studying rocks and soil. The students loved looking at their dirt samples in our cool microscopes. This week they will observe rocks and their characteristics. It's going to be a very fun and BUSY week!
Next week is our plant unit. We will talk about the life-cycle of a plant. We will plant seeds and watch them grow. The kids will hardly be able to wait to show you their cool plants! Their plant is sure to make you smile. :)
Have a great week and don't forget to pull up the PDF file at the top of this page for some more important info about our week!
