School Spirit Night! Don't feel like cooking dinner? :) This is a great opportunity to help give back to our school! I'll be there with Ms. Edwards to see you all! :) In order for our school to get 10% back, make sure to let the cashier know that you are with Silver Crest Elementary!
Dr. Seuss week is finally here! It is one of my favorite themed weeks in our first grade classroom. I love being able to incorporate the themes across my curriculum! My all-star class members have had amazing behavior these past 5 weeks in "filling their buckets". You can ask them all about "How to be a bucket filler?". To reward them for their many acts of kindness shown this last month toward their classmates, (and by Friday they should have their buckets very full) they will have earned an ICE CREAM SUNDAE party! They voted on this reward. :) They will receive their party as part of our Dr. Seuss Read-a-thon day! Also, your child is invited to bring a couple of favorite Dr. Seuss books to school during the week. After the Read-a-thon on Friday, they will then take the books back home. When helping your son or daughter choose a book, please make sure it says "By Dr. Seuss" or "Theo. LeSieg"--which is his name spelled backwards--and also a clue that he did not illustrate his book. In the past, some students have brought books with the Cat in the Hat picture on them, but a lot of those are series of Cat in the Hat new reader books, not necessarily written by Dr. Seuss, so please double-check the books before they are sent to school. Have a great week and don't forget to pull up the PDF file at the bottom of this page for some more important info about our week! ~Mrs. Patterick
Our 100th Day of First Grade Celebration is Friday! We're celebrating our 100th day of first grade this Friday, February 10th! To celebrate, we would love to have the kids dress up like they are 100 years old. We have included some ideas to help you get started planning what your child will wear. Girls: Printed skirt, pearls, eyeglasses, sweater, wig or curled hairstyle, curlers, gray hair spray, knee high stockings, large purse, scarf, etc. Boys: Button down shirt, flannel shirt, suspenders, tie, eyeglasses, drawn on mustache or beard, gray hair spray, etc. Your child will take a small paper bag home tomorrow. Please help him/her think of an item that your child could bring 100 of. (ie. 100 cotton balls, fruit loops, paper clips, buttons, marshmallows, legos, etc.) The 100 items will need to be able to fit in the small paper bag. Please return the bag of 100 items by Thursday. We will be using the items for some 100s day math on Friday! :) This day will be full of fun activities and games all having to do with the number 100! I'd LOVE to have your child participate with us. I can't wait to see my All-Star cast members dress up. I'll be dressed up as well (who knows, maybe I'll have a VERY OLD substitute that day!) ~Mrs. Patterick Dear Parents,
I'm pleased to announce that our "Baggie Books" have gone digital! Yay! If you were not able to attend our school Literacy Night last week, I have included instructions to help you log into our class reading site. We have partnered with RAZ KIDS which is an online site for leveled books and digital resources for reading and writing. I have entered every student's current reading level and I've also enabled the site to let your child choose books 2 levels below their reading level to 2 levels above. The books are the same books your children have been bringing home to read, however, this site provides many more books from which your child can choose. There are also quizzes for the students to complete after they have finished reading their book. This is great for two specific reasons: 1.) Your child can choose the books at his/her own level that interest them. 2.) I am able to view the quizzes and time they were logged in reading so I can better help your child at school. Last but not least, your child can earn online stars by reading and taking the quizzes to help them build a robot! This is very exciting, however, please let your student know that time spent building the robot does not count as reading time. :) If I notice from my end that your child is spending too much time building the robot and not reading, I'll lock the robot until he/she starts reading more. :) This program is available for you to login on any computer at home, or any tablet. If using a tablet, you will need to download the app first. My students were given specific instructions today in class on how to login and use the program! They were very excited! If you do not have access to a computer or tablet at home, please contact me and I'll provide tangible baggie books for your son or daughter. Please refer to the link below for specific login instructions. *This same information was sent home with your child today with his/her login information. It is attached to a yellow paper! If you have any questions please feel free to contact me! :) Mrs. Patterick Dear Parents, Our class will be having a Valentine's Day party on Tuesday, February 14th from 2:00-3:00. I will be sending out a signup for those interested in volunteering. We will also be making Valentine bags in class. If your child chooses to pass out Valentine cards and/or treats, he/she must include one for every child. This will ensure that there are no hurt feelings. Below you will find a list of names for each class member. Sincerely, Mrs. Patterick Adrie Austin Ava Bella Camron Chance Cohen Claire Eunice Garrett Gavin Hudson Kenzie Lexi Lillyanne Makenna Mitchell Rhys Rushton Sage Taygen Yamilett Zoe Here are a few reminders about some things happening here at Silver Crest tomorrow afternoon/evening. If you get a chance to swing by the school for our Literacy Night Open House, please do! There will be a lot of valuable information to help your child(ren) with literacy. Our first grade team will also have a Make & Take literacy game and great ideas on how to help your child with reading and spelling! Teachers will be on hand to answer questions about our new "Raz Kiz Plus" online reading site. As of Student-led conferences in a few weeks, I will no longer be sending home "Baggie Books". Your child will be able to log on to the new Raz Kids Plus reading site (which our school has an account for each student) and the students will read their books online. The teachers will be able to view their nightly reading and their progress as they complete quizzes, etc. I'm really excited to launch this program in our classroom! I hope to see you tomorrow afternoon if you can make it--even for just a few minutes! :) *Please click below to view the flyer! ~Mrs. Patterick
