Flat Stanley Project
We are about to embark on an exciting study of maps and globes. Throughout this unit we will be discovering where our state, our country, and other countries are on maps and globes. Flat Stanley has asked if he can help our students on this learning journey.
We have read the story Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown in class. Stanley was flattened and is able to travel the world. Stanley has agreed to help your child by traveling to visit one of his/her relatives or friends that live in another city, state or country. (You may also choose to take him with you on an upcoming vacation if you have one planned in the near future!) Please send the included letter along with him.
The recipient of Flat Stanley will be asked to house the traveler for a few days, showing him the sites and returning him with a note and some pictures or a small souvenir of the fun that they were able to have together.
Your child will be responsible for putting together a presentation of Flat Stanley's trip with the pictures and letters that were sent back. This presentation can be in the form of a scrapbook, a poster, or a journal. This presentation will be worth 100 points, and is the big homework project for the month.
Presentations are due in class on Monday, May 4th.
Flat Stanley is excited about his upcoming adventures. Please mail him immediately to be sure he returns on time.
If you have any questions, please let us know. As always, we appreciate your support of our learning journey!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Patterick and the First Grade Team
